China's pet food market is booming. According to the 2025 China Pet Industry White Paper, urban pet (dog and cat) spending reached 300.2 billion RMB in 2024, up 7.5% year-on-year. Pet staple food, treats, and supplements accounted for 107.17 billion RMB, 40.53 billion RMB, and 10.81 billion RMB, respectively. Industry forecasts project the pet food market will surpass 117.7 billion RMB by 2026, making it one of the fastest-growing categories in the broader food sector.

This growth brings packaging diversity. Today's pet food lineup includes extruded kibble, freeze-dried, air-dried, baked, and wet formulas — each with its own packaging requirements. Consumer interest in baked and freeze-dried recipes already exceeds traditional kibble in some segments, according to market reports.

Extruded kibble accounts for over 65% of the pet food market, but its crispy, fragile texture is a major packaging challenge. Manual or semi-automatic lines suffer from low throughput and high breakage. Freeze-dried pet food is one of the fastest-growing premium segments, but its irregular shapes and variable density make accurate weighing difficult with conventional methods. V-PACK's multi-stage weighing and intelligent top-up technology ensures precise portion control for products like freeze-dried meat and salmon — delivering consistent fill weights with minimal deviation.

High-fat content creates two common headaches: hopper sticking and seal contamination. V-PACK's vertical packaging machines feature anti-stick sealing devices and non-stick hopper surfaces to ensure smooth material flow and clean, reliable seals. All product-contact parts are made of food-grade stainless steel, with frames designed for easy disassembly and thorough cleaning — minimizing residues and cross-contamination risk.

Premium pet food demand is increasingly about freshness. V-PACK's systems can integrate nitrogen flushing to reduce internal oxygen levels to below 1%, effectively slowing fat oxidation. Combined with high-barrier laminates, this extends shelf life and preserves nutritional quality for premium formulations.
